101: HAVE YOU RECEIVED A WATER WASTING OR EXCESSIVE WATER USE PENALTY FINE IN THE LAST 60 DAYS?
Save yourself penalty fees by electing to take the City’s online water conservation course! For more info, visit the City’s website at: WWW.CITYOFTURLOCK.ORG or call Municipal Services at (209) 668-5590 for assistance
100: FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Even if you don't compost, you can separate the green scraps from your holiday meal leftovers, from the rest and toss them in your leaf bin. And you're recycling your plastic bottles and aluminum cans, right?
99: SPREAD THE HEAT
A well-positioned and slow-rotating fan can help ensure that heat from your radiator or heater doesn’t just drift up to your ceiling but spreads throughout your room, warming you toe to head. One great option is a heater fan, which sits atop woodstoves or gas room heaters and relies on a thermodynamic module to keep them running on heat alone.
98: PEEL A DRAPE
Since most heat loss in your home occurs through and around the windows, draw your drapes, especially at night. During the day, leave north-facing windows uncovered in order to take advantage of the winter sun.
97: HARVEST YOUR GREYWATER
This includes simple practices such as emptying the fish tank in the garden instead of the sink. In short, avoid putting water down the drain when you can use it for something else.
96: TRY TURLOCK FIRST!
Do your Christmas shopping in Turlock and save on gas and air pollution.
95: IT’S WHAT’S INSIDE THAT COUNTS
Wrap gifts with reusable or recycled wrapping paper. The Sunday comics are a fun way to wrap. And forget the tag; sign your warm wishes right on the box.
94: BECAUSE IT ‘S SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST DECORATION
Recycle your Christmas Tree- call Turlock Scavenger for curbside pick-up information at (209) 668-7274.
93: MAY YOUR SEASON BE BRIGHT (AND ENERGY EFFICIENT)
Set your indoor and outdoor light display timers to run during the 3-4 hours you’ll typically be awake in the evening.
92: THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
Give rechargeable batteries to compliment gifts that are battery operated.
91: SEASON’S GREENINGS
Consider purchasing a high quality, artificial Christmas tree.
90: REDUCE AND REUSE
Instead of using plastic food storage bags, opt for washable plastic containers for leftovers and lunches.
89: REDUCE SPILLS AND TRASH
Replace cardboard coffee cups... with travel mugs that you carry with you in your car or tote bag.
88: BECOME BATTERY SMART
Stretch your battery use. A battery too drained to power a flashlight might be perfect to operate your TV remote. Before you pitch it - switch it!
87: BUY A LAPTOP
Even an oversize laptop runs more efficiently and takes less energy than a desktop.
86: DRIVE THRU
Avoid the drive thru. Instead of idling in line with your engine running for several minutes, save the gas by parking and going inside for your order.
85: SIZE COUNTS
When in the market for an appliance, make sure you buy what suits your needs. Items too large or too small waste electricity and your money.
84: MINIMIZE ENERGY WASTE
Keep your refrigerator at 37°- 40° F and your freezer at 5°F.

Line dry your laundry whenever possible.

77: TAKE A HIKE
Plan a trip to visit a nearby forest, fishery or any other eco-observatory to learn about and enjoy the environment in it’s natural state.
76: OK, HERE’S AN EASY ONE….
Make sure your sprinkler is placed so it only waters the lawn, not the pavement.
75: LESS IS MORE…
Buy in bulk to reduce excess packaging.
74: GET INVOLVED!
Contact the City of Turlock Municipal Services Department to find out how you can participate in community events and programs.
73: SOLAR SAVES IN ENERGY USE AND ELECTRICITY BILLS
Consider installing solar panels for generating electricity in your home.
72: SAVING FROM A RAINY DAY
Purchase or construct your own rainbarrel for gathering rainwater.
71: REDUCE, REUSE AND RE-CIRCULATE
Make sure your swimming pools, fountains, and ponds are equipped with re-circulating pumps.
70: SLOW THE FLOW
Avoid purchasing recreational water toys that necessitate a constant stream of water, such as slip and slides.
69: SUPER SAVER- PAPER TIME AND POSTAGE!
Pay your bills online.

67: THE CITY OF TURLOCK OFFERS ASSISTANCE WITH SETTING YOUR SPRINKLER TIMER TOO!
Water early or late in the day. (To prevent water loss from evaporation, don't water your lawn during the hottest part of the day or when it is windy.)

Never pour toxic household chemicals down the drain or on the ground. Take them to a hazardous waste collection center.
61: THE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE
If you use a professional lawn care service, select a company that uses fertilizers sparingly and properly. (For information on attending an URBAN PESTICIDE USER’S WORKSHOP on August 15th, call 209-883-8643 or 209-883-8644)
60: JOIN THE TEAM– TEAM GREEN!
Encourage your kids to become a member of the City of Turlock’s Team Green Kids Club!
58: FLUSHING MEDICATION DOWN THE TOILET IS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Do not flush unused pharmaceuticals down the toilet or drain. (http://www.nodrugsdownthedrain.org/medications.html)
57: MAKE YOUR THUMB EVEN GREENER!

Save documents on your computer or on a disk instead of in a print copy in your filing cabinet.

While brushing your teeth, turn off the tap. Rinse using a cup for water; run the tap only to rinse the toothbrush
