An update from Interim Chief Steven Williams: #turlock #turlockpolice #turlockpd Steven Williams June 4 at 2:36 PM Good Afternoon, I want to provide an update to my post from Monday, May 31, 2021, regarding the €Call to Action€ protest that was held in the parking lot of the Turlock Public Safety Facility which followed the arrest of two individuals on May 30, 2021. Since this involves a criminal investigation, we are in consultation with the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office and referred the matter to them for review. The Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office has reviewed the case and has formally filed felony charges against both individuals arrested including: Swede McDaniel 29800(a)(1) PC € Felon in Possession of a Firearm 30305(a)(1) PC € Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited from Possession of a Firearm 25850(c)(6) PC € Carrying a loaded Firearm in Public Place that was not registered to him (need to verify that, but I think it's accurate) Jamie Ellison 4550(b) PC € Attempted Rescue of a Non-Capital Prisoner 69 PC € Resisting Executive Officer (two counts) It is important to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and let the criminal justice process take its course. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. I am humbled by the outpouring of support for the Turlock Police Department and the officers involved in this incident. Our officers are well trained, professional and respectful of the dignity of all people. This incident was no exception. After thoroughly reviewing the matter, I continue to fully support the actions and decisions of the Turlock Police officers in the early hours of Sunday morning. Our officers did an outstanding job of de-escalating the situation and taking necessary action to protect all involved. The Turlock Police Department will continue to cooperate with the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office as the case moves through the criminal justice system. The countywide standard is that, after criminal charges are formally filed by the District Attorney, media releases will be the responsibility of the District Attorney's Office until the case is adjudicated. I am sending this message today because I made a commitment to follow up with additional information this week. All future media requests should be directed to the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office. Thank you for your continued trust and support!
