Public Outreach
The Regulatory Affairs Division of the City of Turlock’s Municipal Services Department focuses on education efforts to encourage responsible stewardship of environmental resources. The division pursues this goal through informational materials, school & public outreach programs and various community events held throughout the year. Additionally, information is distributed through a variety of media outlets to help keep residents informed, and to promote sustainable living practices throughout the community.
The division works hand-in-hand with local schools to offer students various activities and programs that teach earth-friendly behaviors and evaluate the environmental impact of campus activities. In 2008, the department initiated the first-ever “Go Green Week”, a week-long schedule of activities, coordinated in conjunction with Earth Day and that concludes with the City of Turlock’s Healthy Earth, Healthy Families Fun Festival. Go Green Week encourages environmentally responsible behavior inside and outside of the classroom.
Through a partnership involving teachers, administrators, custodians and parents, students will learn new conservation and pollution prevention strategies through practical application in recycling, composting, water conservation and waste reduction activities.
Other outreach efforts include hosted tours of the water treatment facility for students and community groups, and presentations to local service clubs and organizations.
The department also provides informational slide shows, presentations and videos for the local educational television station. The department has even dedicated a section of the City’s website to “Going Green” information, which provides a variety of information on things such as recycling, water conservation, waste management, pollution and more.
The City of Turlock is an ever-growing environmental stewardship resource for Turlock Residents. To find out more about our educational and outreach efforts, contact Michael Cooke at
